International chart-topping pop star OMI has unveiled the official video for his new single “Hula Hoop” – check it out HERE. The vibrant video was shot in sunny Miami, Florida last month and shows OMI holding a competition for the lead role in the music video. The video then moves on to show OMI enjoying a beach party and jamming to the “addicting” new track, as dubbed by SPIN and Complex. “Hula Hoop” has racked up nearly 1M US Spotify streams this week, and the song’s pseudo video has surpassed 1M YouTube plays. The song serves as the follow-up single to OMI’s global smash hit “Cheerleader” (Felix Jaehn Remix),” which was officially crowned Billboard’s “Song of the Summer 2015” and spent six weeks in the #1 spot on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart. Both tracks are featured on OMI’s upcoming debut album ME 4 U, which is available for pre-order now and is due out October 16.
OMI also recently launched a Hula Hoop Challenge! Fans who think they can make the perfect loop are invited to Vine themselves hula hooping to OMI’s “Hula Hoop” with the hashtag #HulaHoopLoop, and he will share his favorites. Details are available HERE.
Continuing his U.S. takeover, OMI is slated to perform “Cheerleader (Felix Jaehn Remix)” at the 5th Annual Streamys Awards, a multi-platform event honoring the best in YouTube, online video and the creators behind it, on Thursday, September 17. The show will be broadcast live on VH1 from the Hollywood Palladium at 10:00 pm ET. OMI will then perform the next day, September 18, on CBS’s daytime show The Talk, which airs at 2pm ET, 1pm PT/CT on CBS.
This new video comes hot on the heels of OMI’s previous hit “Cheerleader (Felix Jaehn Remix)” officially being named “Song of the Summer” by Billboard after a historic six weeks at the #1 spot on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart, tying for the longest run at #1 on the Hot 100 for a reggae song in more than 22 years. The track, produced by Clifton “Specialist” Dillon for Oufah Music and remixed by Felix Jaehn, has received double platinum certification in the U.S. and has racked up nearly half a Billion combined video views. The song has been streamed over 400 Million times on Spotify and is one of the biggest hits of the year at multi-format radio, achieving #1 airplay at both Pop & Rhythm radio formats, as well as Top 5 airplay at Adult Pop & Dance radio. “Cheerleader (Felix Jaehn Remix)” received an MTV VMA nomination in the “Song of Summer” category and a Teen Choice 2015 Nomination as “Choice Summer Song,” and OMI has performed the track on Good Morning America, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, and America’s Got Talent.
