– كتابي الجديد، إبتكار على صعيد اللغة الإنكليزية، قد بدأت بالإعداد له بعد رحلة طويلة من الأبحاث، التدقيق والقراءة في شتى الميادين الحياتية، وقد قومت علاقة اللغة الإنكليزية بكل ما نقوم به، ووجدت أن هناك صعوبة في إدخال هذه اللغة إلى حياتنا. هذا إلى جانب عملي كمدرس في الخليج، فقد إكتشفت بأن هناك ضعف كبير لدى الطلاب على صعيد قواعد اللغة السليمة، وهناك أسئلة يطرحونها لا إجابات لها…
* رحلة تعليمية إستكشافية طويلة أمضيتها حتى وصلت إلى هذه النتيجة…
– في الحقيقة إستغرق المشروع وقتا طويلا حتى رأى النور، فكنا بداية في مرحلة البحث، بعدها التدقيق والتنقيح والتصحيحات، ليكون بمتناول الجميع خاصة الذين يخضعون لإمتحانات اللغة الإنكليزية في سائر المؤسسات التعليمية. هناك العديد من الأشخاص الذين عملنا سويا لإنجاز العمل، أبرزهم البروفيسور أرمسترونغ والذي عملنا معا على موضوع الإخراج للكتاب، جون هينز والذي عمد إلى تنقيح وإجراء التعديلات على العمل…
* ما كان السبب الأساسي والرئيسي الذي دفعك إلى القيام بهذا المشروع؟!
– عندما كنتُ طالبا في الجامعة، كنت أقطن في سكن الطلاب، وفي يوم كنت أُذاكر وأدرس، وأزعجتني أشعة الشمس التي دخلت إلي من النافذة، فعزمت على الصعود لإغلاق الستار الخارجي؛ وحينها لم أستيقظ إلا بعد غيبوبة دامت ثلاثة أشهر، وكان الأمل حول موضوع العيش ضئيلاً جدا، ولكن الحمدلله إستعدت عافيتي، بعدما أجريت حوالي الثلاثة عشر عملية جراحية، وكنت أقطن في المنزل في تلك الفترة، حيثما بدأت البحث والقراءة والإطلاع…
* هل الكتاب أحادي الإتجاه، أم أنه مقسم إلى مستويات تعليمية؟
– كما قلت لك، فالكتاب موجه إلى الذين يخضعون لإمتحانات في اللغة الإنكليزية، لِذا فهو أحادي المستوى، وتحديدا للذين يقرأون الإنكليزية، ولكن ليسوا على إطلاع وإلمام ببديهيات وقواعد هذه اللغة.
* وهل من الممكن تجزأته في حال إعتماده في المناهج التعليمية؟!
– لا يمكننا تجزأة هذا الكتاب ولكن، سنقوم بإعداد نسخة مختلفة ومعدلة وفقا للمستويات، ونخصص أخرى للذين يتعلمون اللغة الإنكليزية في المعاهد، ولكن تبقى هذه المشاريع للمرحلة المقبلة.
* مؤخرا، بات الطالب يستغني عن الكتاب في ظل وجود الـ CD والإنترنت والحاسوب… هل أخذت هذا المبدأ بعين الإعتبار؟
– سيكون الكتاب متوفرا على شكل Hard Copy ورقي، وعلى شكل قرص مدمج، ما يُسهل إستعماله للذين يدرسون برفقة الحاسب.
* في نظرة على مدارس العالم العربي، هناك فقط 15% منها تعتمد المناهج الدولية، فهل ستتوجه إلى إدخال الكتاب في قائمة المناهج المحلية؟!
– هناك صعوبة في هذا الموضوع، لأننا إعتدنا في المدارس المحلية، والتي لا تتبع المناهج الدولية، على التبديل بالكتب ودور النشر وهذا ما يجعل تعلم اللغة الإنكليزية صعبا، وسوف يكون هناك في الفترة المقبلة كُتب لجميع الطلاب مهما كان مستواهم، وأشير إلى أن النسخة الحالية من الكتاب تصدر على نحيون؛ الأول للطلاب والثاني للمعلمين…
*أين يكمن النقص والضعف في اللغة الإنكليزية في عالمنا العربي؟
– تعود اللغة الإنكليزية في أصلها إلى بريطانيا، حيثما الشعب يتحدث نوعين من الإنكليزية؛ الأولى هي لُغة الشارع (السوقية- Slunk) والأخرى هي الأساس والسليمة (Royal)؛ وها هو جيل اليوم يميل إلى تحدث اللغة السوقية في ترجمة للأفلام والمسلسلات، وهناك بعض الكلمات التي لا يعرفون معناها الحقيقي ويستخدمونها في يومياتهم، وهنا يبرز تأثير سوء إدارة اللغة وإستعمالها!
* ختاما، في ظل توسع الافق التعليمي للغات وتنوعها بين الروسية، الألمانية وغريها، أنت تشدد على الإنكليزية…
– صحيح، لأن اللغة الإنكليزية أساس في العديد من اللغات والمعاجم والكلمات، ولا تنسى سمتها العالمية!
Michael Alkarsifi, let’s talk at the beginning about your English language theory that you have recently completed.
My book “Gateway to Grammar, Principle and Practice” is a new theory of teaching English Grammar. I have started writing this book after taking a long time with researches and teaching this subject. In addition to editing and reading many subjects that discuss about our daily lives. Besides, I have assessed the English language with all what we do every day. There where I discovered the difficulties that the non native English speakers face. I have recently worked in the gulf as an English instructor and during that time I’ve discovered that there are many weaknesses with the proper use of English and specifically the Grammar. Non native English speakers and students always ask many questions that we don’t usually find answers to them, in the books that are usually come from the United Stated or the United Kingdom.
Sure it was a long discovering trip you’ve had Michael until you’ve come to this result.
This project took a long time till it came to light. The first step I had made was doing some reaches about the English Grammar subjects, and after that I had to make corrections and editing to the information I will give to the English as foreign language learners. Specifically to the students who have to pass the EFL tests. There are Americans instructors “Lyall Armstong, John Hess, Jonathan Swift” who have been reviewing and completing this project with me.
What was your first and basic aim of doing this project?
I was a student and used to live in a dormitory, and while once I was studying and was bothered from the sun light that came to my room through the window. Then I climbed the window to close the curtains, so they would protect me from the sun. While I was trying to close them I fell down from the five floor high. After that terrible accident I woke up from the coma after 55 days and the hope of coming back to life was a minor. But with the mercy of God I came back to life and after I had to undergo more than 16 surgeries for my bone. I had to stay with my family during the time I needed aid. I took an advantage of being all day in bed, so I started to study and read all kind of books and for different subjects.
Does your book contain one level of teaching English grammar or is it for many levels?
As I have mentioned before that my book is for the student who need to pass their EFL tests. That’s why it is one level only, and particularly to the people who can read English, but are facing difficulties with understanding the grammar rules.
Is it possible for this book to be divided into levels in case it will have been taught at schools?
We can’t divide this book into levels. But later we will make books that are used for teaching different levels, and will also make special books for the people who go to private institutes that teach English as a Foreign Language.
Have you taken into consideration that students are using the computers and the Internet to do their school work, regarding your project?
The book will be in two features a hard copy and a soft copy “CD”. Then it will be easy to use it on the personal computers.
As it is known that there only 15 % of the international schools in the Arab world, have you considered teaching your book at the local schools?
It is difficult to teach this book at the local schools, because the local schools in the Middle East always use English books form different companies from around the world. Thus it will be difficult to use this book in a specific level in local schools. Later we’ll make books with different levels for local schools. I would like to mention here that my books is made as a student and a teacher’s book.
Where do you find the weaknesses of using the English Language in the Arab world?
As we all know that the English Language is originally from the United Kingdom, where the English people themselves speak to type of English language. The first one is the slang which is the street language and the second one which is the proper one is the royal English. Unfortunately, the new generation likes to speak the first one which is the slang that we can find in movies or from songs. There are many words that are said that none English speakers really don’t know, in spite of that they use them. Here we discover the impact of using the improper use of English.
Finally, you still insist on the importance the English language rather than learning German or Russian or other?
That’s true because the English Language is basically is an important source among other language, in addition that we can’t hide its important reputation worldwide.
